Sara Barker — Untitled artwork bio
Glasgow-based artist Sara Barker’s Untitled is a negotiation between matter and medium, a coalescence with the shifting and fragmented states of self and identity experienced within the domestic proportions of her home during lockdown.
Working in collaboration and within the rigid parameters of an unfamiliar lockdown environment, each cast was formed then fused with discarded household materials; of packaging, tin foil, and paint marked by traces of natural decomposition. This convergence of elements captures the blur between the domestic and the artistic, resulting in a layered reflection of interior and exterior worlds, of bricks and of being.
Untitled is a work which exists beyond the physical boundaries and materials of its creation and is an extension of the interior dimensions of its creator. It is an intimate introspection, a transformation and configuration of the familiar and the mundane into the profound, depicting and revealing the limitless freedom that can emerge from confinement.
